JAMES (JIM, JIMMY) ALLAN SHERRETT
It was a bittersweet farewell to our fun loving, humorous and warm-hearted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law and friend, James (Jim, Jimmy) Allan Sherrett.
Jim passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Victoria Hospital, after a lengthy illness, surrounded by those who loved him.
He had just celebrated his 79 birthday with family on May 1.
Jim is survived by Linda, his wife of 35 years, Janice, mother of his two boys (and proudest accomplishment), James (Monique), Scott (Amanda), their grandchildren, Finlay, Jack and Aubrey, his nephew Cody and niece Becky (Boo Boo) and their families, brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Monika, extended family, and Georgia, his pup. We will all greatly miss him.
Jim was the only child of Bob and Joan Sherrett (predeceased) which encouraged him to develop many beautiful friendships.
Jim was born in Kenora, Ontario in 1947 and moved to Winnipeg to begin his schooling.
He spent his life returning to Kenora, Long Bow Lake and Lake of the Woods fishing, guiding and enjoying the great outdoors; and that is where he met the Tisdale family, becoming life-long friends with his fishing and hunting buddy, Rob Tisdale.
Jim was educated in Winnipeg at Brock Corydon Elementary School, Grant Park High School and the University of Manitoba.
He enjoyed a 40-year career with Great West Life, finishing his final years with his son, Scott, who took over the business. However, Jim always maintained that “Those of us who would rather work than play, have never really played”.
Jim loved his family and friends, and if he didn’t warm up to someone, he would say “I don’t like that person very much, I better get to know them better”.
He had a passion for hunting, fishing, nature, and any type of motorized transportation. He was fortunate to experience travel, Africa being one of his favourites.
Jim was positive and pleasant and smiled to the end, never losing his child like enthusiasm to living the best life.
“Good night sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest”.
Thank you to all friends and family for your generosity of love and kindness. Thank you to the phenomenal medical community at HSC, Grace Hospital and Victoria Hospital.
A “Celebration of Jim’s Life” will be held at Fort Whyte, Buffalo Crossing Visitors Centre, 2505 McGillivray Blvd., Winnipeg, Manitoba on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Feel free to wear Camo.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fort Whyte Alive.
